چکیده

Spectral rendering takes the full visible spectrum into account when calculating light-surface interaction and can overcome the well-known deficiencies of rendering with tristimulus color models. We present a variant of the precomputed radiance transfer algorithm that is tailored towards real-time spectral rendering on modern graphics hardware. Our method renders diffuse, self-shadowing objects with spatially varying spectral reflectance properties under distant, dynamic, full-spectral illumination. To achieve real-time frame rates and practical memory requirements we split the light transfer function into an achromatic part that varies per vertex and a wavelengthdependent part that represents a spectral albedo texture map. As an additional optimization, we project reflectance and illuminant spectra into an orthonormal basis. One area of application for our research is virtual design applications that require relighting objects with high color fidelity at interactive frame rates.

Precomputed Radiance Transfer for Real-time Indirect Lighting using a Spectral Mesh Basis

Simulating indirect lighting effects has been a challenging topic in many real-time rendering and design applications. This paper presents a novel method, based on precomputed radiance transfer, for rendering physically based, multi-bounce indirect lighting in real-time. Our key idea is to represent both the direct lighting and precomputed diffuse indirect transfer using a spectral mesh basis s...

Large-Scale Data Management for PRT-Based Real-Time Rendering of Dynamically Skinned Models

Computer games and real-time applications frequently adopt mesh skinning as a deformation technique for virtual characters and articulated objects. Rendering skinned models with global shading effects, such as interreflection and subsurface scattering, using precomputed radiance transfer enables high-quality real-time display of dynamically deformed objects. In this approach, we need to precomp...

Adaptive Precomputation of Glossy Interreflections

Precomputed radiance transfer methods compute a global light transport model the transfer function to enable real-time rendering of scenes under dynamic distant illumination for arbitrary viewpoints. Usually this transfer function is represented for directions and surface points that are defined a priori. In this paper, we present a precomputed radiance transfer technique, which adaptively choo...

A Gentle Introduction to Precomputed Radiance Transfer

Realistic image synthesis is one of the most relevant subjects in computer graphics, and many algorithms have been developed to try to reproduce the visual complexity perceived in the real world. However, rendering realistic images in real time remains a challenge even with the support of modern graphics hardware. Precomputed Radiance Transfer (PRT) is a new graphics technique capable of synthe...
